Rooted in personal memory and shaped by hand, Melon Ridge No.3 is a coffee cup inspired by the forms of melons from artist Yu Lei’s childhood. His family’s life revolved around the melon harvest, and this cup is a tribute to those early impressions—organic, irregular, and quietly generous in shape.

Each piece is hand-thrown, embracing the spirit of “taking its form, making countless forms” — no two are exactly the same. Available in two finishes:

  • Brown Exterior, White Interior (外棕内白) – Earthy iron clay exterior with a subtle white glaze inside; tactile, grounded, and full of character.

  • White Exterior, Yellow Interior (外白内黄) – Smooth white clay with a warm, amber-toned inner glaze that glows gently from within.

Fired at 1250°C and holding 220ml, this cup invites both use and contemplation — a quiet object full of presence.

The Artist Behind the Craft

GENYU （艮余） is an artistic ceramics brand founded by the contemporary Chinese ceramicist Yu Lei. Born in rural Hunan, Yu Lei’s affinity with pottery began in childhood, playing with mud in the fields. After graduating from Beijing University of Technology with a degree in Art and Design, he moved to Jingdezhen, the historical heart of Chinese ceramics, to master his craft.

In 2017, he established GENYU, later relocating his studio to Hangzhou. Yu Lei’s creations emphasize natural aesthetics and tactile experiences, using mineral-based glazes and expressive sculptural techniques. Each piece preserves subtle, spontaneous marks reflecting its handmade origin, offering collectors refined, high-end pottery that resonates deeply with nature's quiet beauty.
